To adopt contactless solutions, states ping banks and payment firms

To replace traditional ticketing systems with contactless solutions, state transport authorities across India  are inviting banks, fintech companies, card networks and payment service providers. Amidst the pandemic situation, this move is completely focused on aligning the latest social distancing and hygiene norms.

Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan transport bodies have issued tenders for contracts, calling for bids from banks and digital service providers to help scale their technology requirements.

Calling for bids from banks and digital service providers to help scale their technology requirements and to offer contactless ticketing and payment solutions in bus fleets, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh  transport bodies have issued tenders for contract.

Moreover to adopt such services, making use of QR and Near Field Communication technologies, other states including Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are also in early discussions to adopt such services, the sources said.

This would render contact-free ticketing systems by creating an open-loop ticketing and payment platform. Hence, making use of the latest technologies has never been so critical than today. For instance, Uttar Pradesh’s UPSRTC is on the verge of adopting an IoT-based integrated bus ticketing service. Also, Rajasthan transport authority - RSRTC - are intending to operate Digital Fare Collection using NCMC Cards.
